Custom Crochet Baby ensemble / Coming home set for baby Myelea Rose

Soon to arrive baby Myelea Rose Thornton is set to make her debut on May 1st, 2012. Her family is thrilled to be welcoming a baby girl into the family as Myelea will be the first girl to join her eleven male cousins. The Thornton's ordered a boutique style handmade custom crochet 6 piece coming home baby set from me months ago. They also ordered digital announcements, shower and scrapbooking items from Pixie Paint Studio. ( I sell photo and digital items from my sister site, Pixie Paint Studio.

Myelea's nursery is done in a rose pink and mint green theme and is decorated with rubber ducks. (Daddy's Favorite) The baby shower was done in a matching theme. infant to adult. What a great accessory item to just about any outfit. This hat can be worn year round as it is made of a top quality cotton fiber. The hat can be made with a flower on the side. Different flowers are available and can be made as a clip on, so as to be worn as a hair clippie or with other items, or can be permanently affixed. I am now offering the custom made newsboy in some other variations of the design. A heavier fiber can be used for those who require strictly winter weight. Happy New Year to all of my customers, followers and readers who helped to make 2011 a very successful year for me. I had so much fun creating for all who ordered from me and all who contracted me to make special items for them both here and on my sister sites. I had so much fun and I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Thanks to all my followers who have kept in contact with me over the years and continued to order from me. Your encouragement has been a highlight to me! Thanks to you, my friends and family, who have encouraged me. A special thank you to my husband and my daughter who encourage me, help me and believe in me. I can't begin to say what your support means to me. (Dear husband, you are my best friend and I love you so much. You help me to make all that I do possible in more ways than mere words could convey.) And...most of all, I thank God! It is He who gave me my talents and blesses me to use them. My life is HIS and I pray only that I might use my talents to bring HIM honor and glory and that I might share His great love through my work. 2011 was a great year and I look forward to all the wonderful things that 2012 will bring.

I haven't posted to my blog as often as I might have liked (because I have been so busy with orders) but I am going to try to post a bit more often this year. I started this blog because of customer requests, so, I suppose the very least I can do is post a bit more often.

Girls Lalaloopsy Hat for a gift or Pageant, One of a Kind, Ready to Ship!

If you have a little girl around, you probably have some Lalaloopsy dolls around. They are the latest craze. As their line expands, new dolls are items are being released. They have their own play sets, clothing, tree house, remote control car, ferris-wheel, school bus, etc. I have been getting requests for Lalaloopsy items.

Recently, I finished my own rendition of a handmade boutique Lalaloopsy inspired hat that you collectors might recognize as made to match Crumb Sugar Cookie. (My own design) This one is made of all high quality cotton fibers and is suitable for year round wear! This hat is ready to ship and will fit approximate sizes 3t to 6x. The hat does stretch and would be the perfect accessory item. This hat took a LONG time to make, so I am not sure I will repeat it unless by custom order. Right now, it is definitely a one of a kind item. The curls are secured both inside and out and stacked in a special way. If the right buyer comes along, this is going to make some little Lalaloopsy lover very happy when she sees her gift. This would also be a big hit for some little pageant princess to wear.

Remember, this hat is full of luscious curls that are stacked and though secured, still are

In April, 2006 eBoutique Designs was started. Boutique designers and some buyers alike joined. Membership kept growing and eBD became a huge boutique group that now boasts over 2100 members. I am both honored and pleased to say that I have been chosen as the featured designer for the end of October showcasing a special set of my handmade crocheted gingerbread items. (Thank you eBD)

They featured my year round gingerbread hat. It is made of fine cottons and has a stationary layered flower on the hat that also has a layer of Michael Miller fabric. The hat comes with one gingerbread pin. This pin can be worn on the hat or not. Perfect for almost any occasion. The perfect accessory item to wear with so many things.
Also featured are my made to match leg warmers. One set on auction comes with matching gingerbread pins. They can also be worn or laced in shoes. They are festive pinned on legwarmers but the legwarmers can be worn without the pins all winter..then showing off the appliqued hearts on the side of the cuff. The legwarmers can also be worn as arm warmers if desired.

You just can't find a bag on the market anywhere... that I am aware of, that comes even close to this craftsmanship. Favorite Daughter's New "Scrapbook Room Rug"...made to match!

Today, I have something pretty to share. I am featuring a crocheted fabric rug made with very special "fibers" that I call the scrapbook rug. I love how this rug turned out. Nothing like a crocheted fabric rug in made to match colors to accessorize a bedroom.

So cute!
This scrapbook rug is extra special and constructed of reclaimed clothing items worn by a special little girl. Mama saved daughter's clothing and commissioned me to make her a rug made from the clothing. It is very time consuming but the end result is something to be treasured. What could be more special than to be reminded of all the cute outfits of days gone by in a more grown up way in ones decor? It is just like looking at happy reminders of years gone by, or rather like looking at a SCRAPBOOK. (Hence the name: Scrapbook rug.) This rug should last for many years to come. These rugs get rather heavy to work with but are soft, durable and pretty. This particular rug is not for sale but I do take custom orders. Also, very soon, I will have another rug and matching mat (made to match) that will be posted for sale in one of my stores..(ebay or etsy) ..well, unless someone comes along and snaps it up before I even get it posted for sale. That happens a lot. Anyway, they are nearly finished, so keep checking back to see the finished products.

Headed to the bathroom with a matching tranquility rug

This has been a first for me. A customer sent me fabric to match her bathroom and commissioned me to make her a crochet rug for her bathroom made to match the other decor items she had sewn. The customer, an interior designer herself, made a shower curtain, a window curtain and decorative towel bands with monograms. It all looked really wonderful, except for one thing, she couldn't find a rug to match her bathroom. She decided to have me make her a one of a kind rug that would match exactly.

By sending me ample yardage to work with, I was able to make not only a matching rug but also to make a few small baskets to go in her bathroom. The baskets are great for displaying rolled up towels, washcloths or a few magazines. They can also be used for shelves to store small items such as makeup or bath essentials. It all looks great and I have another happy customer. Here is a picture of the rug in progress. The entire bathroom is done is shades of light turquoise, pink, sea green and darker, deep ocean blue. The room has a light ocean type feel to the room and exudes tranquility. So pretty.

Beaded socks for a dance competition

I love doing custom orders. This pair of boutique beaded crocheted socks was a lot of fun to make. They were made to match a unique summer outfit for a special little girl to wear in a dance competition. I wanted to share a picture of the finished product with you. As many of you know, I am a member of Etsy Kids, a design group featuring handmade design items for kids, that is based on Etsy.com. There is a new requirement for membership and in trying to satisfy that new requirement, I was to find a member whose item matched something new that I had and who inspired me enough to feature them on my blog. I looked throughout the listings of many members looking for that special item when a listing by Jennifer Woodring of SEW ORIGINAL caught my eye.

I was wowed by the lovely and creative items Jennifer has featured in her shop. I contacted her to interview her so that I could feature her here. Below are a few of the questions she answered. I hope you enjoy learning about the history of her shop as much I did.

Question: How did you come up with your shop name? (Sew Original)
Jennifer: "My husband came up w/ my shop name. I sat in front of the computer for 3 days and couldn't think of anything. Since I use a lot of vintage materials I thought the name was fitting."

Question: How long have you been sewing?
Jennifer: "I have been sewing since I was a child, mostly by hand. In 2001, I had a son and tried sewing for him, but in 2004, I had my first daughter and really started sewing. Finally, my husband got me a machine and I started my Etsy store:) "

Question: What inspires your designs?
Jennifer: "I see inspiration everywhere! Really! Colors, people & fabric all inspire me!"

Question: What are your favorite items to sew?
Jennifer: "My favorite things to sew are girls dresses! I especially love twirly dresses & little girls dresses with ruffles and I love to see them in them! I've always said there isn't enough cute stuff for boys out there... I need to work on that. LOL"

Question: You are such a talented seamstress. Why do you love to sew?
Jennifer: "I love to sew because I feel like I am doing something productive. It is much like therapy for me. I love the rush of finishing something new and wonderful and saying "Wow! I made that!"

Question: What fabrics do you most like to work with?
Jennifer: "I love to work with woven cottons. Knits are a little tricky."

Question: You are an experienced seamstress. I am sure you have much advice and expertise you could share with someone who is just beginning to sew. What advice would you give to beginning seamstresses?
Jennifer: "Keep trying and don't give up! You can always turn a mistake into something great, even if it's not what you first intended!"

I have to say it have been a while since I last updated my blog.

Sometimes custom orders keep me very busy.

When you add custom orders to all the activities I must keep

up with in daily life, that all equals one busy gal. Today, I want to feature a home decor crocheted rug. It seems that gray is a popular decorative color trend this year. I am seeing items everywhere made with gray or with gray as the main color and custom orders seem to include lots of gray as well. This accessory rug, created with shades of purple and gray is very pretty and turned out really great. Since this rug has been sold, it is not available for sale however, I do accept custom orders for all sorts of custom crochet items. These rugs are lovely in a room and amazingly durable. The more you wash them the softer they get. Perfect for standing on in front of the kitchen sink or in a bathroom. They are lovely in any room.

Rotten Stinky Easter Egg !

Happy Easter to you all. Today is the day when Peter Cottontail, aka.... The Easter Bunny, pays a visit to many bringing an Easter basket and hiding eggs. I remember the great baskets that the Easter Bunny delivered to our house when I was young. Ok, I will admit it! I was a little hurt when those baskets stopped coming. There is just something exciting about waiting to see what goodies are in the basket. Now, I am not just talking candy. The Easter Bunny was a great shopper, and SOMEHOW "he" knew just what I liked. (My Mom was AWESOME!)

Preparing eggs to hide was a lot of fun. I remember gathering around the table at my grandparent's house and coloring eggs in preparation for the big egg hunt at church. It was such a lot of fun.

Hiding eggs wasn't only to be done as a church function. My siblings and I also hid them at home. When thinking about hiding eggs at home with my little ones, I recollect a story from my childhood that makes me laugh. One year, because it rained outside, hiding eggs at home had to be done in the house. My siblings and I excitedly hid the eggs we had colored, each one choosing special hiding places in our living room. One of us decided my father's desk might be the ideal place and hid an egg in a pull out filing drawer among the papers. We set about collecting the eggs that were hidden but somehow, the one in the desk was missed. Some time went by before we began to smell a foul odor in our house. My mother searched the house over but couldn't seem to locate the smell. She enlisted my grandmother's help. She also was unable to find the source of the stench that seemed to be getting worse each day. Finally, my mother opened the desk drawer. You guessed it. One of our eggs was causing the terrible smell.

We laughabout it now, but back then my parents were less than pleased with our choice of egg hiding places. Come to think of it, that was the one and only time my Mother allowed us to hide REAL eggs in the house. From then on, we hid only plastic ones. Isn't childhood grand!! Live and learn. Growing up with my siblings left me with many happy memories which I'll forever cherish. Never a dull moment in our household. Yes, that is what real fun was made of, to be sure. How blessed I was to have such an adventurous childhood. Just goes to show that even rotten, stinky eggs can be memorable.

The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ's victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all. For many around the world, Easter is a day when people celebrate Christ's resurrection and His conquest over death with His ascension to Heaven and the promise of His return one day. Christians therefore believe that they too can receive new life after death through faith in Christ's miracle of the resurrection. Easter is the celebration of this belief.

"Easter Sunday" is a holiday that helps me and I hope many others to enhance and celebrate the true meaning of existence and living life with purpose.

However you choose to celebrate this holiday, I hope this is a wonderful day for you and one that will cause you to reflect on the very purpose of life.

One of my favorite go-to sites, Favecrafts.com has all sorts of fun things on their site. If you haven't been there before, I strongly encourage your visit. They are currently having a Twirly Batik Skirt Pattern Giveaway. I love the looks of the skirt. So cute.
The pattern is by Gifted by Sew Fast Designs/Rose Mary Jameson. According to the pattern description on the Favecrafts site, the inspiration for this skirt came when Rose Mary was visiting friends in the Santa Fe mountains. She fell in love with the Artist’s colony and thinks most of New Mexico is an artist’s vision of heaven. She loved the open markets and the unique style of Santa Fe. From the photo and looking at the pattern, she did capture the magic of the free spirit of New Mexico and the flair of Santa Fe.

Are you left scratching your head when it comes to Spring & Summer color trends for 2011?

Not even the Mom Olympics could ready the average mother for the seasonal changes in clothing styles and color trends coming our way for Spring & Summer 2011. It is enough to make ones head spin! Even Harry Potter himself couldn't morph himself into someone totally prepared for the color changes and trendy styles you know your kids are going to ask for. You know the drill! When spring comes and you look through your closets only to find that you have nothing to wear. Worse yet, none of your kids clothes from last year even come close to fitting. Could they possibly have grown that much while winter dragged by? Hmmmm. Somehow, they did. Setting out to find something new is anything but easy, not to mention the time constraints that most Mom's operate under.

One must almost be deemed a juggler to find time in ones schedule to shop for a new wardrobe. What do the kids want in their closets anyway? You guessed it! Fun and trendy wear....the kind of thing that, deep inside, you know your wallet is not prepared to handle. You want clothing that will look nice, be durable and not cost and "arm and a leg" too. Hard to find, even for the best bargain hunting Mom. Cloth / Fabric Spring 2011 Colour Trends

For their take on the colours for Spring 2011 fashion trends, cloth manufacturers Lenzing believe that we won't just be throwing off the darker colours of Fall 2010's trends but possibly even the mentality that has gone with recent financially tough times. Thus they see Spring / Summer 2011 colours as those which are "uplifting" and "soften, energise, and excite."

For the Spring / Summer 2011 season they've put forwards five key colour trends.

Celebration

Spring personified in a palette, the colors that make up this Spring 2011 color trend are mostly named after flowers: iris, viola, daffodil, poppy, and geranium. Unsurprisingly, should this color scheme take your fancy, this one should be worked into your Spring 2011 wardrobe as a part of your florals.

Abstraction

I must confess to not liking this color palette in the leastl the turquoise clashes with the maroon to my eye, and how yellow green made it in there has left me stumped. This is one color trend for those who are loud and proud.

New Classic

According to Lenzing new and unexpected twists on classic elements, and naturally bright pigments, will develop into new classics. "Fabrics are classic, materials the same but all elements are somewhat twisted: fibers in unusual yarn-spinning and -counts, classical weave patterns in atypical materials clashed with a curious checkered design, an embroidery where you didn't expect it - nothing loud, just enough to make you startle."

Aqueous

Sitting as our favourite Spring / Summer 2011 color trend 'aqueous' is also the most dangerous. An obvious color theme for Spring 2011 because of its nautical tones, such obviousness is also what is likely to see it lazily interpreted and applied - a danger for designers and labels looking to apply seasonal colors to their basics. To avoid such misapplication Lenzing believe it should be used with "floating" pieces where the fabric is the focus; an interpretation of the sheer clothing trend seems a strong contender if you intend to work this color theme through your wardrobe.

Perleage

Subtle colours, bar for the jet black, this is a color trend all about sheen; in effect, luxurious and radiant colors menat to match with your radiant Summer tan.

Lingerie / Swimwear Spring 2011 Colour Trends

Along with their take on the motifs that we'll be wearing in Spring 2011, Interfiliere have also released their interpretation of the season's colour trends. Their choice for the colours you should be picking for your swimwear and lingerie are an eclectic range of hues, and ones better suited to swimwear than they are to the boudoir.

Leather Spring 2010 Colour Trends

Le Cuir A Paris is another fashion trend based event, though different to Interfiliere in that it concentrates on leather and fur trends. Their picks for Spring / Summer 2011 colour trends are divided into five separate motifs:

Archaic Garden

"The range is whitened, stony, mineral or delicately fruity. The softness of faded, evanescent, light and serious colors."

Underwater Variation

Could it be that we have overlooked the somehow endless uses of the magnificent carrot? Most of us know it is as a herbaceous root vegetable that tastes great by itself, cooked or uncooked. We add them to countless food dishes. We bake them, saute them, boil and broil them. We eat carrots glazed or puréed with butter or cream, and use them in soups, stews, quiches, soufflés and omelettes. We cut them into sticks, rounds, chunks, or julienne strips or dice, slice or grate. Carrots are also a wonderful antioxidant for our bodies and supply us with vitamin A, potassium, vitamin C, thiamine, copper, vitamin B6, folic acid and magnesium. Carrots also play a role in maintaining good eyesight. The carrot is a wonderful addition to our diets....but......
are we overlooking the OTHER uses for the carrot?

Up-cycle, Recycle, Boutique goes GREEN!

Custom orders come in all shapes and sizes. Recycled or up cycled items are very popular and are often requested. It is a fabulous way to go GREEN and help do what we can to save our planet. I love recycling whenever possible. I believe we all have a responsibility to try to recycle and conserve whenever we can. Recycling with boutique items is so much fun. We can add an accessory here or there or something for home decor in an unexpected way.

Shown above is an up-cycled handcrafted flower bag crocheted from various plastic bags that I saved from an uncertain "death". The result is a washable accessory bag that can be used for the market, the beach, or wherever one might wish to carry it. I have made several of these bags by request. They take a great many bags to complete and some extra time. I used approximately 125 bags to make the purse above. Occasionally, I've gotten a request for a fabric lining, though most often, customers have chosen an unlined bag. They are very popular and can be custom ordered. Of course, these items will differ somewhat because of available plastic.

There have been instances where customers would actually choose to mail me their colored bags to be made into something they requested. This most often happens when a customer has access to a certain color bag that I cannot get in my area.

Pictured here is a rug that was custom made for a family's bathroom. The plastic fibers were crocheted along with yarn to give the rug more color and added strength. The customer mailed me her plastic and her yarn colors to match her bathroom. This was the end result. I had a very happy customer.

Adding yarn to plastic fibers can amazingly add a pop of color that you might not expect and can alter the final "look" greatly. This same technique can be used when making purses and baskets too.

Shown here is part of a rug made with added green and purple yarn crocheted along with the plastic fibers. Perfect for the teenagers' room it went to.

While you might think these plastic items would feel stiff, they are anything but. As a matter of fact, most people can't even tell that they are made from plastic bags when they see them. They are surprisingly sturdy and simply wipe clean. I do have customers who even put their rugs in the washer and dryer and say they do fine. Washing your items makes them softer, but no less strong or durable.

This round rug has turquoise and green yarn added to the plastic fibers (or plarn, as it is more commonly known) to create a striking sea-scape of colors. I love how it turned out.
There really is no limit as to what can be made with the bags, though it does take somewhat longer to make these items than it might with conventional yarn or thread. The nice thing is the end result helps our earth by recycling while at the same time supplying a stylish, usable, one of a kind item. I love the idea!

A Flower For Grandma

I love my Grandma and I love flowers. Mix the two and you get a handmade flower for Grandma, pretty enough to accent a dressy outfit or to wear everyday. I wanted to make something for my Grandmother that she might enjoy and be able to use. I came up with this boutique style crochet accessory flower. I added a pin back and a pearl center.
The result pleased my Grandma. Thought you might like to see her pin.

One day it’s raining; the next day there’s snow. The weather has been its' usual unpredictable self this winter. Temperatures were nearly 70 one day with ice and snow the next. In a strange way, that has become the norm. With Easter soon coming, many of us have pretty colors, ruffles, and new clothes in mind. Who could think of dressing that new baby girl in anything but a new hat? I wanted to share with you an Easter boutique crochet hat that was a custom order for Baby Hannah. Her Mommy gave me a picture of what she wanted it to look like and I set about creating a hat with flower and contrasting button made to match Little Miss Hannah's planned Easter dress. Hannah's Mommy is happy with the new handmade baby girl hat.

Let's hope baby girl Hannah likes her new made to match accessory just as much and is also a happy customer.

Among the listings are two items that I listed and want to feature here. My items for this launch were inspired by customers pre-orders for Easter. I was so happy with how the custom crochet orders turned out, that I decided to offer them for the launch.

Superbowl XLV, Green Bay Packers & Best Game Commercial

Did you watch the Superbowl XLV?
We did. This year, my husband and I rooted for the same team...and I am glad to say, they pulled it off. Way to go GREEN BAY PACKERS! They socked it to Pittsburgh with a final score of 31 - 25!

The Packers are taking the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy home with them after earning it fair and square! It was a great game! (I wonder if the Cheesehead's of Green Bay taking a vacation day tomorrow? I would say they earned it, wouldn't you?)

There was just something exciting about watching Quarterback Aaron Rodgers lead the packers to their first Superbowl win in 14 years! The icing on the cake was that Rodgers won the games MVP, which was thrilling to watch, even if I am not a Cheesehead. This should lessen the sting of the whole Brett Favre separation in Green Bay as Rodgers is now equal with Favre in Superbowl wins. Aaron Rodgers also succeeded in extending the Packer's record of NFL 13, nine of which were before the Superbowl era. Now, surely all Cheesehead fans will be focusing on Rodgers and the new champions of Superbowl XLV..THE GREEN BAY PACKERS!

The winner,hands-down..at least for me... was the Volkswagen Passat-Young Darth Vader...

My second favorite was the Bridgestone Karma commercial. Funny stuff.

(And to the Stealers, you are a fierce team and played a good game, but, you know the drill boys...."May the best team win")

Salt Crystal Formation For Fun!

The formation of salt crystals takes weeks or even months to grow. I thought I would share with you one of the many home science projects we have been doing at our house. Seems we always have one or two projects going on. It is just something our family really likes to do.
While reading about salt crystals, we found some projects to do at home. There are various ways in which one might achieve salt crystal formation ...with the outcome being a bit different in each instance. For our current project, which was started months ago, we started with a small glass jar. We heated to boiling about a cup of water and a couple of tablespoons of table salt. To this we added some blue food coloring (my daughter's color of choice, though any color could be used) and poured all contents in the jar. We sat the jar on a window sill, undisturbed.
Now, let me be the first to tell you that there is some truth to the old saying "a watch pot never boils" as waiting for the crystals to form was much like watching paint dry. I would like to have a dollar for each time my daughter wanted to look to see if any crystals had yet formed. I might be able to afford something really nice. (You parents with little children know just what I mean, I am sure!)

Several days had gone by when the first crystals could be seen forming on the inside of the jar. Many months have gone by and our salt crystal formation has made quite a lot of progress. I thought I would share a few of the pictures with you.

This is a look at the outside of the jar where our project is taking place. As you can see from the picture, the salt crystals are nearing the top of the jar now.

Here are a couple views looking down into the jar. Although you can see the formations
on the side of jar, sadly, the camera didn't pick up the beauty of the crystals that can be seen. They really are kind of pretty.

As you can see from the view above, the salt projections are growing inward. This might present a problem, at some point, when additional water, salt and food coloring need to be added.

In this picture, you can see how sheer looking the crystal formations near the top look as they first begin to form and climb. It is quite a different look later when layer upon layer form.

This picture is interesting in that the salt formation that can be seen on the left of the jar looks almost as if it is folding over as it grows toward the center.

I hope you enjoyed seeing our salt crystal formation pictures. Perhaps in a few more months, I will share another picture to update you on what the formation looks like then.

What A Cute Poodle Puppy!

A friend of mine (Tina) has some has some beautiful poodle puppies. I have been following their progress since they were born. I just had to share with you one beautiful red pup that I think is extra sweet! His name is Ryder and he is the prettiest color red. Those of you who know me know that for many years, I had a special poodle (Bridgette) who was red. I have a bit of a weakness for red poodles. I thought you might enjoy seeing Ryder's latest pictures. He is such a cute puppy!

A recipe for a wonderful breakfast smoothie.....You are going to love it!

A vegan friend shared with me her favorite breakfast smoothie recipe. Now, let me just say that when she described the smoothie, I didn't exactly think it sounded all that appetizing. To be honest, the thought of mixing strawberries and oats with any kind of milk in a blender and drinking the concoction sounded very unlike what I might like to willingly consume for my breakfast. To be fair though, I have tried other recipes prepared by my vegan friend, and most have been rather tasty....and I emphasize "MOST" here. There were those few that almost made me gag when I tasted them (just to be polite) so anytime my friend offers up a new recipe, I am somewhat skeptical.
Rachel (my friend) ranted and raved about how great this smoothie was and insisted that she would email me the recipe if I promised to try it. I finally promised to try it and since I try my best to keep my word, "I gave it a whirl"...literally.
The smoothie, as you might have guessed is best prepared in a blender, so giving it a whirl in the blender was spot on.
OK, I know you are waiting to see what I thought. To my surprise...I didn't gag! Quite the opposite. I really liked it. So much, in fact, that I have decided to share her recipe with you here.
Perhaps you will be brave enough to try it too.

This smoothie was really easy to make. It had a rich creamy texture and because of the strawberries, was pink in color. I used iron fortified Soy Milk. I would imagine you could use any kind of milk you wanted though. I just used what I had on hand. The taste was smooth and the drink had great flavor. It was really quick to make....maybe 5 minutes..tops! It was very filling.

So, for those of you who might want to try the recipe my friend shared with me, here
it is. Drop back by here and let me know how you liked it. This recipe made 2 regular sized servings.

Strawberry Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 cup soy milk

1/2 cup rolled oats
1 banana, broken into chunks
14 frozen strawberries
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar

Directions:

1.In a blender, combine soy milk, oats, banana and strawberries. Add vanilla and sugar if desired. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

( I also think this recipe would be great with a bit of added fresh pineapple. I may try it that way next time.)

For those of you who might be vegans, I think you will soon add this recipe to your favorites. For those of you who are not vegans, I encourage you to give this smoothie a try. It really does taste great.

It is New Years Eve...

Well, I can hardly believe it myself but it is New Year's Eve. This year seems to have gone by painfully fast for me. I would have liked to savor my time a bit more but it seems I am almost always in a hurry. My optometrist and I were discussing this very thing last week as he reflected on how busy he had been this year. We laughed as we recalled the days of our youth when unhurried time seemed to be plentiful, recalling lazy days with "nothing pressing to do." What happened to those days? Hmmm, I am not sure. I used to think that I would "grow up" and be more in control of all my days and would have "all the time in the world." Somehow, it seems just the opposite happened when I reached adulthood.

I don't get it!

With all the modern conveniences we have and use on a daily basis, supposedly making our days "easier" and more organized, I find that I have less time instead of more. I can't help but think that we are all missing the boat here. Gone are the days when people have time just to visit or to "find" something to do. Instead, we have more and more of what we term "modern conveniences" which seems to leave us with less and less time. Our daily activities have become so impersonal. Texting has taken the place of calls or visits. Instead of visiting our friends or neighbors, we email them or text them. We have become such an impersonal race. I can't see how that is good. Perhaps our parents and grandparents were in fact the "lucky" ones savoring what has now seemingly been, at least to some degree, lost. I am not one to stand in the way of progress, and I like some of my electronic devices, (computer, etc) as well the next person, but may I suggest to all that for the coming year, we think about making a different kind of resolution.....one of a more personal nature. Maybe we could all take one day a week and "fast" from our electronic devices instead spending time with family or something along that line. Instead of texting, maybe just at least once a week we could visit a friend or actually pick up the telephone

and call them as opposed to emailing or texting. Our little family has decided to have a family game night once per week. It can't hurt anything can it? Who knows, we might all come out ahead for the new year.

I suspect that you all have many ways in which to celebrate the new year. My little family and I are going to ring it in at home, together. We are going to spend the evening together enjoying one another and talking a bit about all the many things we are thankful for. We are also going to talk a bit about what we each intend to do to make this world a better place in the new year. We happen to believe that if each of us did just one thing to make the world a better place, it would have a huge positive outcome.

So, as this year comes to an end and the new year dawns, I wish you all a safe and happy new year, filled with God's blessing on you and your families. I wish you all good health, good fortune and good friendship. May each of you enjoy each new day that God brings to you and may you make the most of it in a most positive way. May we all do what we can to support and show love to others and remember that there are many who are less fortunate than we ourselves might be. May we remember each day to thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us and may we seek His ultimate guidance in all that we do and put our faith and trust in Him.

May we all take pride in our country and remember to support and pray for it, as well as the other countries in the world. May we remember to pray for peace in our world. Let us all remember to pray for our troops and our leaders.

May we do all that we are blessed to do and all that we put our hands to as unto God, for without Him we would not be blessed to do what we are doing anyway. May the coming new year bring each of us closer to Him.
I pray that 2011 is better to you as a person and to our nation than 2010 was. May we all work hard to do our part to make 2011 the best it can be.Happy New Year to you all.

I was recently part of a boutique design collaboration with the very talented Julia of Frogbelliesandblossoms. This time, our quest was to come up with a set to the Boutique MemoryLane's "struck by the love bug" launch on ebay. Our quest: to come up with something to do with love. We chose the puppy love theme and set about
putting our collaborative boutique design together.

Working with Julia is always so much fun. We really make a good design team in that we just generally work well together and seem to be good at bouncing ideas off one another. We both bring different things to the table, and that is what makes it fun. Julia is a blast to work with. I expect that she and I will team many more times in the future, so stay tuned for lots more fun designs.

I created a pink, boutique style handmade crocheted poodle purse for this launch. I love how it turned out. Her ears and head are covered with fluff that is all crocheted in. I recently participated in a boutique collaboration with another designer. The outcome is so cute. I just had to share it with you. I teamed with Julia of Frogbelliesandblossoms to make this set. It took many, many weeks and hours to do the set but it was certainly worth it.

We made a Boutique ONE OF A KIND outfit that would dress a little princess "to the nines!" This would even be great for pageant wear! This pretty set is a little girls size 4, so you could possibly fit a three or a small 5 in it as well. If you plan to bid on this set, bid accordingly, because the set will not be repeated.

I decided it is time for an update to my original handmade design. My daughter made a few suggestions, and this is the result. I love how it turned out!

Woo Hoo, Check Out My New Ribbon!

I am a proud member of the BCMM (Boutique Custom Mini Mall) board and trivia team. Games go on for a month at a time with daily games held each day of the month. Winners are tabulated at the end of the month. I am proud to say I won first place for the month of September. I wanted to show you the ribbon I was awarded. (This is only my second time in first place.)
Trivia is a lot of fun. It doesn't really matter to me if I win or lose, but playing is a lot of fun. I have learned a lot of new things.

Thank you BCMM for the ribbon and thank you also to all the gals who played with me.

There are some really great players in the group and all do a fine job. I am both honored to receive the ribbon and to play with these fine gals!

Hope For God's Children Charity Auction...Please Help!

So many children and families have been effected by Cancer. I am proud to say that I am affiliated with a group that bands together to offer auctions to benefit some of those children and families that need help.
This group is called Hope For God's Children.

It has many members and membership is growing daily. Designers, talented artisans and people whose hearts are full of love and a desire to help in any way possible have joined together to help children and families on an ongoing basis. Presently, Hope For God's Children members are conducting a charity auction launch on eBay. Currently, all items and proceeds from these boutique auctions go to benefit the Matthew's family.
The auctions for the Matthews family will run from September 23rd through October 14th.
New items will be added by designers throughout the launch, so make sure to check back often to see what has been added since the last time you looked. Maybe you will find something that you want to bid on. Remember, Christmas is fast approaching and perhaps there is an auction item that would make the perfect gift for that special someone.
Here is a little about the Matthew's Family whom our Hope For God's Children auctions will go to benefit:

Ezra was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma on October 4th, 2009 at the age of 13 months. On October 6th The Matthews found out they were pregnant again. After weeks in the hospital and an initial round of chemo, in early November they found they were pregnant with twins. As the months progressed, Ezra went through 6 rounds of chemo, various treatments, and moving towards having the main tumor (above his left kidney) removed.

At 26 weeks (3 1/2 months early) Robyn Matthews delivered twins, Price and Charley. Price was 1lb 13oz, and Charley was 1lb 15oz. They both had multiple heavy complications, including level 4 bleeds in the brain, and on March 22nd, the twins’ 1 week birthday, God took Price back from them.

Charley was still critical, and many of the same issues as Price. He was rushed to All Children’s hospital in St Pete, who had better Dr's to handle the brain trauma. He received multiple surgeries, including having a shunt put in his brain, then removed as it wasn’t working correct, a new shunt put in, then another surgery to move that shunt. It’s now working great and will remain with him for life. He also had heart surgery to fix a murmur, which went well. Charley should be home by the end of September.

Talk about a whirlwind of emotions. 2 weeks after Price died, on April Fools Day, 2010, Ezra had his neuroblastoma tumor successfully removed. His left kidney was fully involved with the tumor, and was also removed. He recovered well, and we spent the entire month of June living in a hospital for stem cell transplant for Ezra – in an isolated, HEPA filtered room. Charley was in the same hospital (and still is), only 1 floor away, so we were able to visit him often, although Ezra wasn’t allowed to leave the room the entire 30 days.

The day before Ezra’s 2nd birthday we discovered he’d relapsed already, less than 4 months out of stem cell transplant. This means his neuroblastoma is very aggressive, and at the moment there is no cure. We are working on treatments which will “prolong life” up to 5-7 years, and praying to God for a miracle in that time, whether through flat-out miraculous healing or through a cure being discovered in that time. We will be going to New York to get some treatment done at Sloan Memorial hospital there the end of this year.

The Matthews are hopeful.

Summer is normally full of fun activities. This summer has been no exception. When my daughter fractured her arm and was told she had to "be still" for several weeks, her mind began to race. All she seemed to be able to think of was all the fun that she would miss out on. She did have to miss several planned activities (farm tours, air shows, beach trips, horseback riding and caving, to name a few) but was thrilled to be released by her doctor in time to attend Vacation Bible School. She goes every year, and like the other children in attendance, loves it.
I thought for Fun Friday, I would share some of the pictures that I took during the weeks festivities, which, I must say, was fun for all!

T-Rex makes an appearance!

A couple of posts ago, I featured some pictures of a custom crocheted, handmade, one of a kind order for a T-Rex dinosaur golf club cover that I created for an outstanding young man who is an avid golfer with a lot of talent. I promised that I would share some pictures of this fine young man with his new T-Rex golf club cover, if his mother was agreeable. Here are a few of my Monday Musings. My daughter has been studying Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Uncle Sam in her first grade class. These are the silhouettes she made of them to go along with her writing assignment.
